Marvel and Star Wars Team Up for First-Ever Crossover
Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm are joining forces for the first official crossover between the Marvel Universe and Star Wars. The new five-issue limited series, Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, is set to launch in January 2027 and will roll out monthly through May.
The project was first revealed by Entertainment Weekly and arrives as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, the 1977 film that introduced audiences to the galaxy far, far away. For collectors and fans of both franchises, the announcement marks a notable moment for two of the most recognizable names in pop culture.
Release Plan and Creative Team
Hope Assembles is written by Kevin Smith and illustrated by David Marquez. The first issue is scheduled for January 2027, with the remaining installments following on a monthly schedule through May.
Smith is known for Clerks and has also written comics including Daredevil, Batman, and Green Arrow. In comments shared with Entertainment Weekly, he said he had imagined a crossover like this since reading Marvel's Star Wars comics in the early 1980s.
Marquez is an Eisner-nominated and New York Times bestselling artist whose credits include Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man featuring Miles Morales, Civil War II, Uncanny X-Men, and Justice League.
What the Story Brings Together
According to the series logline, a reality-shattering spell will pull the events of A New Hope into Earth-616, Marvel Comics' primary continuity. That setup opens the door for a long list of familiar characters to collide across universes.
Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca are expected to intersect with Marvel heroes such as Captain America, Black Widow, Spider-Man, and the Hulk. The story also places Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire into a world that includes Doctor Doom.
That mix creates a rare crossover scenario built around two franchises that have each developed massive followings across comics, movies, television, and collectibles.

Lucasfilm Publishing creative director Michael Siglain described Hope Assembles as a true love letter to Star Wars, Marvel, and comics. Marvel Comics editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski said the idea had been something Marvel wanted to explore since regaining the Star Wars license more than a decade ago.
The timing also lines up with a period of high interest in both properties. Star Wars cards have continued to draw strong collector attention, while Marvel releases remain a major part of the hobby landscape. Even so, no crossover collectibles have been announced with the comic series.
