Disney, the NFL and Champion Bring Character Pairings to Fanatics Fest 2026

Fanatics Fest 2026 at the Javits Center in New York City featured a first-of-its-kind collaboration between Disney, the NFL and Champion, pairing all 32 NFL teams with Disney, Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar characters across heritage-inspired tees, crewnecks and sweatshirts.

The rollout was presented as a creative drafting process built around team identity, character storytelling and sports fandom. Rather than simply matching popular names to famous franchises, the collaboration focused on finding pairings that felt connected to each team’s history, city and overall spirit.

At the third annual Fanatics Fest, the Disney Fan Zone helped showcase the launch, with the first eight team pairings revealed on stage by Taylor Rooks and Roger Goodell. A ninth pairing, the Philadelphia Eagles with Dr. Doom, was also shown in the Disney Fan Zone area.

How the Disney x NFL Pairings Were Chosen

According to Bret Healey, Director of Graphic Design at Disney Consumer Products, the team approached the collaboration with an eye toward adding a second layer of meaning to each matchup. He pointed to the thought process behind the pairings as something that went beyond surface-level similarities.

That approach was visible in the early reveals. Some matchups leaned into obvious visual or personality connections, while others drew from deeper references to a team’s origins or local identity. The result was a collection designed to feel familiar to fans of both the NFL and Disney properties.

Healey noted that even pairings that seemed straightforward at first glance were built with extra context in mind. For example, the Jets and Buzz Lightyear connection was tied to the team’s aviation roots and the broader space-age era that helped define the franchise’s identity.

Notable Team and Character Pairings

The Buffalo Bills were matched with Disney’s Beast, a pairing built around strength and duality. The connection also reflected the idea of a loyal, intense fan base and a character with a powerful presence.

Disney and Pixar’s Woody was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, a pairing that emphasized character, confidence and timeless appeal.

The New York Jets were paired with Disney and Pixar’s Buzz Lightyear, with the connection rooted in aviation, speed, flight and confidence.

The New York Giants were matched with Wreck-It Ralph, a character whose big, bold and unstoppable personality fit the team’s identity.

The Las Vegas Raiders selected Darth Vader, with Tom Brady and Fernando Mendoza joining Roger Goodell on stage for the announcement. The Raiders’ power and presence aligned with Vader’s edge and mystique.

The New England Patriots were paired with Marvel’s Captain America, presented as a futuristic take on a lasting symbol of leadership and patriotism.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were matched with Disney’s Captain Hook, a pairing that leaned into pirate imagery and attitude.

The Washington Commanders drafted Disney and Pixar’s Hamm, a nod to “The Hogs,” the Washington linemen from the 1980s.

The Philadelphia Eagles were also revealed with Marvel’s Dr. Doom in the Disney Fan Zone.

What Fans Saw at Fanatics Fest

The launch gave attendees an early look at the apparel collection and the creative direction behind it. The clothing options shown at Fanatics Fest included heritage-inspired tees, crewnecks and sweatshirts featuring the character and team combinations.

Because the reveal was staged as a draft, the presentation added a sports-style layer to the collaboration. That format helped frame each pairing as a selection with its own story, rather than a simple licensing crossover.

The event also underscored how the collaboration was built to connect with multiple fan bases at once. NFL supporters could see their teams represented through familiar Disney characters, while Disney fans could view the same pairings through the lens of character traits and storytelling.

Disney, ESPN and the Year of the Super Bowl

The launch also ties into Disney and ESPN’s “Year of the Super Bowl,” a yearlong celebration leading into ESPN’s first Super Bowl production in February. The collaboration adds another sports and entertainment touchpoint as the companies build toward that milestone.

Additional drops, storytelling and fan moments are planned throughout the 2026 season and beyond, extending the partnership beyond the initial Fanatics Fest reveal. The remaining team pairings are scheduled to roll out online in August.

With the first wave now public, the collaboration gives fans a preview of how Disney, the NFL and Champion are blending team tradition with character-driven design across the full league.
