Upper Deck Names Wayne Gretzky a Legacy Partner

Upper Deck Expands Wayne Gretzky Partnership

Upper Deck has expanded its longstanding exclusive agreement with Wayne Gretzky, naming the hockey icon an Upper Deck Legacy Partner. Gretzky now joins Michael Jordan in receiving the distinction from Upper Deck, which holds exclusive rights to produce premium autographed collectibles featuring his authenticated signature and likeness.

The announcement adds another layer to one of Upper Deck’s most recognizable athlete relationships and brings new Gretzky-focused collectibles to market through both trading cards and Upper Deck Authenticated products.

Upper Deck Master Collection - Wayne Gretzky Returns

At the center of the release is the Upper Deck Master Collection - Wayne Gretzky, which is returning for the first time in 25 years. The collection is numbered to 250 and will be available exclusively on UpperDeckStore.com.

Upper Deck says the checklist spans Gretzky’s World Junior Championship, his NHL accolades, his Hockey Hall of Fame induction, and the retirement of his number league-wide. The product is designed to highlight the full arc of his career, from early milestones to the achievements that defined his place in hockey history.

The collection also includes rare Wayne Gretzky autographs, memorabilia, and inscription cards. In addition, collectors can find dual, triple, and quad-autograph cards, memorabilia cards, and relic booklets featuring legends from other sports.

Special signed boxes

Upper Deck says three special boxes have been signed and inscribed by Gretzky to commemorate specific career moments:

• Box #1/250 - 2,857 PTS Number 1
• Box #4/250 - 4 Stanley Cups
• Box #9/250 - 9 Hart Trophies

New Upper Deck Authenticated Gretzky Collection

Upper Deck Authenticated is also releasing a new collection celebrating Gretzky’s legacy. The set features five prints that tell the story of his career through never-before-used imagery and elegant designs.

The pieces trace his journey from his start with the Indianapolis Racers, marking the first time the team has been featured in UDA memorabilia, to the NHL records that still stand as some of the sport’s most enduring marks. The collection also includes imagery tied to the final game of his career, when he said goodbye to hockey and hung up his skates for good.

According to Upper Deck, the new UDA pieces are intended to showcase the legend behind Wayne Gretzky and his place among the greatest athletes of all time.

Hockey Hall of Fame Recognition

The announcement also drew praise from the Hockey Hall of Fame. Jamie Dinsmore, President and CEO of the Hockey Hall of Fame, said Gretzky’s impact on hockey extends beyond records and championships.

Dinsmore also noted the partnership with Upper Deck provides an opportunity to recognize Gretzky’s legacy as well as the role Walter Gretzky played in helping shape it. The Walter Gretzky Upper Deck Hockey Resource Center will continue to honor Walter’s name for generations to come, according to the statement.

What Collectors Should Know

The new Gretzky offerings continue Upper Deck’s focus on authenticated memorabilia and premium autograph products tied to some of the most recognizable names in sports. For collectors, the return of the Master Collection after 25 years is the headline item, especially with its limited run of 250 and its mix of autographs, memorabilia, inscription cards, and multi-signature content.

The Upper Deck Authenticated release adds a separate layer to the announcement by presenting Gretzky’s career through five prints and never-before-used imagery. Together, the two releases underscore how Upper Deck is using the Legacy Partner designation to build a broader collectible program around Gretzky’s career and influence on hockey.

With the Master Collection available only through UpperDeckStore.com and the UDA pieces focused on career-spanning storytelling, the latest rollout gives collectors multiple ways to chase authenticated Wayne Gretzky memorabilia and artwork tied to one of the sport’s most celebrated figures.
