A loaded college football weekend with hobby stakes

College football is set for one of its biggest weekends of the season, with top-10 matchups, ranked showdowns, regional rivalries and Heisman hopefuls all on the schedule. Several of these games could shape the playoff picture, but they also carry real weight for the sports card market.

From elite quarterback prospects to breakout wide receivers, the performances this weekend could influence both award races and card values. Here is a look at some of the biggest games and why they matter to the hobby.

No. 23 Oregon at No. 12 Ohio State

Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith enters Week 10 as the heavy favorite in the Heisman race. Even without quarterback Julian Sayin, Smith was dominant in a loss to USC, finishing with 10 catches while being held under 100 yards.

For the hobby, another strong performance from Smith would matter in a big way. His cards remain among the most watched in the college football market, and his current availability is limited this fall to Leaf and ONIT products. That makes every big game especially important for collectors following his market.

Smith's values have not been falling, but another loss for Ohio State would make the Buckeyes' playoff path much tougher. Three losses would be difficult to overcome, especially with the team already on the outside looking in.

No. 6 Kentucky at No. 13 Tennessee

Kentucky quarterback Kenny Minchey remains a longshot in the Heisman race, but a win over Tennessee could push him into the conversation for a trip to New York.

Minchey has also seen a rise in hobby interest as Kentucky has climbed in the polls. While this game does not carry the same card-market weight as some of the other ranked matchups, his recent momentum has been noticeable.

Related coverage includes Week 10 College Football Could Move the Heisman Race—and Several Key Card Markets.

A Bowman Chrome Crystalized Superfractor from Minchey sold last week for $2,850, a strong result for a Tier 2 SSP from Bowman. Kentucky can nearly lock up its playoff position with a win, while a loss would all but eliminate Tennessee.

No. 5 Alabama at No. 14 LSU

This game features multiple Heisman candidates and plenty of playoff implications. LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt is currently in the top five of the Heisman race, while Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell sits inside the top 10.

There is also added attention on the return of Alabama wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams, though that storyline may not be the biggest hobby angle in the game.

Leavitt remains one of the more volatile names in the market. His play and his card prices have both shown sharp swings, with high peaks and low valleys. Still, a win over Alabama would keep him firmly in the New York conversation.

Keelon Russell also has hobby interest thanks to cards in 2026 Panini Donruss, including a Downtown. The note here is that the unlicensed format makes that card a tougher sell than a licensed equivalent would be.

LSU needs a win to stay alive for the College Football Playoff, while Alabama can likely survive another loss given its surprisingly strong position in the initial rankings.

No. 2 Georgia at No. 10 Ole Miss

Two of the top six Heisman finalists are involved in this matchup. Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss is currently fourth in the race, while Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton sits sixth.

The hobby challenge with Chambliss is that his cards are limited to unlicensed products, which affects his market profile. He has cards in Panini Obsidian and Donruss, and that has made his value more difficult to compare with quarterbacks who have stronger licensed checklist support.

Even so, Chambliss has been one of the few quarterback prospects playing well and improving his draft stock while other names have slipped, including Arch Manning and Dante Moore, who has been impacted by injury.

Stockton has a broader card presence, with cards in 2025 Bowman Chrome Football, 2025 Bowman's Best and 2026 Panini products. His best-performing cards have come from his Bowman 1sts, with Bowman's Best close behind.

Both teams remain in the playoff picture with a loss, but Ole Miss probably needs a win to keep its playoff hopes and Chambliss' Heisman chances alive.

No. 9 BYU at No. 3 Utah

Utah quarterback Devon Dampier is leading the No. 3 Utes, but he remains just outside the top 10 in Heisman odds. BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier is an even longer shot.

From a hobby standpoint, Bachmeier has been one of the top prospect chases in 2026 Bowman Football. Dampier, meanwhile, was one of the more underrated chases in 2025 Bowman Chrome Football.

This game may not have the same playoff pressure as some of the other matchups, since both teams can likely afford a loss. BYU has the benefit of its win over Notre Dame and the absence of LJ Martin as context, while Utah remains undefeated and has some margin for error.

No. 1 Miami at No. 11 Notre Dame

This is one of the most important games of the weekend for both the playoff race and the hobby. Miami quarterback Darian Mensah is right there with Jeremiah Smith as one of the Heisman favorites, while Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr is closer to Mensah for second than Trinidad Chambliss is for fourth.

Carr was the second-biggest chase in 2026 Bowman Football behind Arch Manning, while Mensah was also a major chase in the set. Both quarterbacks have already produced some significant sales from 2026 Bowman Football.

Mensah's top sale is his Red Garbage Pail Kids Refractor /5, which sold for $3,800. That is the second-biggest sale of his career, behind only his 2025 Bowman Chrome U Superfractor Auto, which sold for $3,900.

Carr has topped that mark several times over. He has seven sales above Mensah's top sale, and his top sale is a Red Anime SSP /5 from 2026 Bowman Football that sold for $6,500.

Notre Dame sits 11th in the College Football Playoff Rankings and needs a win to stay alive. A loss would put the Irish in serious trouble. Miami, meanwhile, would likely still be fine for the playoff even with a loss.

Without wide receiver Malachi Toney, this is a tougher matchup for the Hurricanes, but Mensah has been outstanding this season and remains one of the most closely watched names in the hobby.

What this weekend could mean for the hobby

The college football calendar is entering a stretch where every major result can affect the Heisman race, playoff positioning and card values at the same time. Jeremiah Smith remains the name to watch at the top of the market, but Mensah, Carr, Chambliss, Leavitt and several others are all in position to move with one big performance.

For collectors, the key story is not just who wins, but which players turn a marquee game into a defining hobby moment. With several top teams meeting in high-stakes matchups, the next round of card movement could come quickly.
