Shai Gilgeous-Alexander redemption card sets public sales record

Fresh off his second straight NBA MVP award, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander keeps making headlines in the hobby. A redemption card for a 2025-26 Topps Chrome SGA Gold Logoman Autographed Relics Game-Used Patch Card sold for $1,061,400 in Goldin’s May Elite Auction, setting a new public sales record for an SGA card.

The card was listed as an unused redemption card, and its seven-figure result pushed Gilgeous-Alexander into rare territory among modern basketball card sales. The sale also underscored how much attention premium Logoman and autograph relic cards continue to draw when tied to top NBA stars.

Goldin auction delivers multiple record prices

The SGA sale was the headline basketball result in an auction that produced several notable records across the hobby. Goldin’s May Elite Auction included high-end cards from basketball, baseball, and other sports, with multiple pieces reaching new public benchmarks.

Among the biggest sales was a 2023-24 Panini Prizm Black Gold Victor Wembanyama Rookie card that sold for $324,642. The auction also featured a 2018 Topps Chrome Sapphire Edition Red Autograph Shohei Ohtani Rookie card that brought $530,700, along with a 2017-18 Panini Impeccable Kobe Bryant signed card that sold for $329,400.

Other notable results included a 1934 Goudey Lou Gehrig signed card that reached $172,714 and a Nov. 28, 1983 Sports Illustrated Michael Jordan First Cover that sold for $79,910.

Basketball cards lead the way

Several basketball cards set or matched records during the auction, led by the SGA redemption card. The sale added to a strong run for modern and vintage basketball issues at the high end of the market.

What made the SGA card stand out

The card that topped the auction combined several elements that usually drive elite-level demand: a Logoman, autograph, relic content, and a game-used patch designation. In the high-end card market, those features can create intense competition, especially when attached to a reigning NBA superstar coming off an MVP season.

Goldin identified the item as a 2025-26 Topps Chrome SGA Gold Logoman Autographed Relics Game-Used Patch Card redemption. Because it was an unused redemption card, the sale centered on the right to receive the card rather than the physical card itself at auction time.

The result gave Gilgeous-Alexander another major hobby milestone and added to the growing list of record sales tied to current NBA stars. It also continued a trend in which premium modern basketball cards, especially one-of-one style pieces and low-population high-end inserts, remain among the most sought-after items in the market.

High-end modern basketball remains strong

The auction results showed continued strength for modern basketball cards at the top end, with Victor Wembanyama, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Paige Bueckers, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander all appearing among the day’s biggest sales. The mix of current stars, legends, and premium product lines reflected the broad demand that continues to shape the high-end segment of the hobby.

For collectors tracking record prices, the SGA redemption card stood out as the most expensive public sale for one of his cards to date. With his profile rising after back-to-back MVP seasons, the market response to his premium cards has become one of the more closely watched storylines in the hobby.

The Goldin auction also showed that the appetite for elite basketball cards is not limited to one era or one player. From Jordan and LeBron to Wembanyama and Gilgeous-Alexander, the results highlighted how top-tier cards tied to major names continue to command significant attention when they surface publicly.
