Goldin Summer 100 Auction delivers major results

Goldin’s Summer 100 Auction featured a long list of rare sports collectibles, but the biggest headlines came from cards tied to two of the most recognizable names in the hobby: Shohei Ohtani and Michael Jordan.

Four items topped $1 million in the auction, led by a record-setting Ohtani rookie card and a record sale for a Jordan game-used autograph card. The results also included several additional records across baseball, basketball, soccer, racing, and wrestling collectibles.

Shohei Ohtani cards lead the auction

Ohtani’s top result came from a 2018 Red Refractor Rookie Auto #2/5 that sold for $2.4 million. The card carried a BGS 9.5/True Gem+ grade and a Pop 2 rating, and Goldin said the sale set the all-time high public price for any Ohtani Bowman Chrome card.

Two more Ohtani cards also posted strong numbers. A 2025 Topps Chrome SuperFractor #1, numbered 1/1 and graded PSA 10, sold for $701,500. Another Ohtani card, a 2018 Topps Allen & Ginter World Talent #WT-24 Kanji-signed Rookie graded PSA 8 with a PSA/DNA 10 Auto, brought $226,920. Goldin described that result as a record for a modern-day Allen and Ginter card.

Michael Jordan cards and memorabilia set records

Jordan was another major driver of the auction. His 2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection Auto Game-Used Patch card sold for $1.46 million, setting a record for the card.

Another Jordan highlight was a 1998-99 Upper Deck Jordan Game Jersey Autographs #MJx-GJ card, a signed game-worn relic numbered to 23 copies. The example sold for $549,000 and was described as a record sale for the card. It was graded PSA 9 with a Pop 3 rating.

Jordan also produced several other notable record sales in the auction:

• A signed and inscribed rookie Type I photo from Jordan’s first Nike Air Jordan ad campaign in November 1984 sold for $528,937, a record for any Jordan photo.
• His first magazine cover, the December 10, 1984 Sports Illustrated issue titled “A Star is Born,” sold for $378,200, setting a record for the highest public sale for any magazine.
• A 1996-97 Flair Showcase Legacy Collection Row card graded PSA 10 with a Pop 5 rating sold for a record $427,000.
• A 1985 Nike Promo signed and inscribed “#23” rookie card graded PSA 6 with Auto 8 sold for $356,286.
