LeBron James Card Sets a New Public Sale Record
The Goldin 100 Summer Auction delivered another headline result for the hobby when a LeBron James card established a new record for the highest public sale of a LeBron card. The card was a 2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection RPA /23, graded BGS 9.5, and it sold for $2,928,000 on June 28, 2026.
While the sale did not surpass the highest known private transactions involving LeBron James cards, it did move to the top of the public market for any LeBron card sale. That distinction matters in a market where many of the biggest deals are completed privately and never fully disclosed.
The Previous Public Record
Before this auction, the record for the highest public sale of a LeBron James card belonged to another Exquisite Collection RPA. That card was a 2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite RPA /99 graded BGS 8.5, and it sold through Goldin for $2.46 million on October 25, 2021.
As with many of LeBron James' top public sales, the previous record was also tied to the Exquisite Collection line. That product has long been one of the defining modern basketball releases for high-end collectors, especially when it comes to premium autograph patch cards.
Why the Exquisite RPA Remains So Important
LeBron James' Exquisite Collection RPAs have become some of the most watched cards in the hobby because they combine several of the features collectors value most: a premium brand, a low serial number, and strong demand from both basketball and high-end sports card buyers. The new record sale continued that trend.
The card that set the new public record is the 2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection RPA /23, one of the scarcer versions from the set. Its BGS 9.5 grade added to the appeal, and the final price reflected the continued strength of the market for elite LeBron James cards.
Private Sales Still Sit Above the Public Record
Even with the new public benchmark, the highest known prices for this specific LeBron card type have come in private transactions. According to the report, a 2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection RPA /23 sold privately for $4.25 million in a PSA 9 with Auto 10 in August 2025. Another private sale reached $5.2 million in April 2026 for a BGS 9 copy.
Those figures show how much room there can be between public auction results and private market activity, especially for cards at the very top of the hobby. Public sales provide the clearest benchmark collectors can track, but private deals often set the ceiling when the rarest cards change hands behind closed doors.
The Biggest LeBron James Card Sale Still Stands Apart
Even with the new public record, the most valuable LeBron James card sale remains a different card entirely. That top result belongs to the 2006-07 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection Michael Jordan & LeBron James Dual Logoman Auto 1-of-1, which sold for $10 million in September 2025.
That sale ranks fourth all-time and stands as the second-highest sale ever for a basketball card. It is one of the most significant modern basketball card transactions ever recorded and remains the benchmark for LeBron-related cardboard at the highest end of the market.
Basketball Card Sales at the Top of the Hobby
The highest sale of a basketball card overall is still the 2007-08 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant Dual Logoman Auto, which sold for $12,932,000 in a PSA 6. That result continues to sit above every other basketball card sale on record.
LeBron's new public record does not challenge that all-time mark, but it reinforces how powerful the market remains for the most important cards tied to the biggest names in basketball history. Cards featuring LeBron, Jordan, and Kobe continue to dominate the upper tier of hobby sales whenever they surface publicly.
LeBron James Market Strength Continues
The record sale arrived at a time when LeBron James remains one of the strongest names in the sports card market. Even with the Lakers out of the NBA playoffs and no championship run in progress, demand for his cards has stayed high. The source notes that Card Ladder has LeBron up 76.85% over the last two years, a sign of continued momentum in his market.
There is also added intrigue around the possibility of LeBron reuniting with Anthony Davis in the Bay Area to join Steph Curry. Whether or not that scenario develops, the speculation alone has helped keep attention on LeBron's collecting market as he moves deeper into the later stages of his career.
Goldin 100 Delivers Another Major Hobby Result
The LeBron sale was part of a night that produced several notable records during the Goldin 100 Auction. Goldin highlighted the event as a record-setting showcase that included major results across multiple collecting categories, with LeBron James among the biggest names drawing attention.
For basketball card collectors, the result adds another important data point to the modern high-end market. The combination of a low-numbered Exquisite RPA, a strong grade, and a major auction platform created the kind of public sale that hobby watchers track closely.
As more elite cards appear in public auctions, the gap between public and private market results remains one of the most closely watched parts of the hobby. For now, the new Goldin sale gives collectors a fresh public benchmark for one of the most desirable LeBron James cards ever made.
