Topps Adds a New Redemption Chase to Chrome Cosmic

Topps is adding an unusual twist to the Topps Chrome Cosmic release by giving collectors a chance to chase a rare one-of-one that is not found in packs. According to Topps' announcement on social media, collectors who assemble a group of 10 Super Nova inserts from the same player can redeem them for a Black Hole Autograph of that player.

The company directed collectors to its Topps Ripped site for more information on how the program works. The setup turns the chase into a race, since the first collector to complete the requirement for each player will earn the one-of-one autograph card.

How the Black Hole Autograph Redemption Works

Topps says the redemption process begins with the Super Nova insert, which carries a black peel on the card. Collectors must peel it to reveal a code, then log that code on the Topps Ripped site. The site includes a page for entering totals and tracking progress, along with a leaderboard for each player in the promotion.

Once a collector has logged 10 qualifying Super Nova inserts for a player, the next step is verification. Topps says the collector will need to confirm that the cards are physically in hand, with additional verification details to be sent by email.

The Black Hole Autograph itself is a one-of-one card. Topps has shown examples of the concept through Topps Ripped, including a Jacob Misiorowski Black Hole autographed refractor.

25 Players Included in the Program

Topps says there are 25 players available in the chase. The list includes:

  • Aaron Judge
  • Juan Soto
  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
  • Freddie Freeman
  • Bobby Witt Jr.
  • Mike Trout
  • Shohei Ohtani
  • Ronald Acuna Jr.
  • Francisco Lindor
  • Paul Skenes
  • Bryce Harper
  • Elly De La Cruz
  • Julio Rodriguez
  • Gunnar Henderson
  • Junior Caminero
  • Yashinobu Yamamoto
  • Nick Kurtz
  • Trey Yesavage
  • Chase Burns
  • Nolan McLean
  • Jacob Misiorowski
  • Samuel Basallo
  • Roman Anthony
  • Jac Caglianone
  • Minutaka Murakami

That player list gives the promotion a broad mix of established stars and emerging names, which should make the leaderboard competition especially active once collectors begin entering codes.

Only 50 Super Nova Copies Per Player

Although the Super Nova inserts are not numbered, Topps Ripped reported that there are only 50 copies of each player. That limited supply adds another layer to the chase, since collectors need 10 copies of a single player to qualify for the redemption.

Because the Black Hole Autograph is awarded to the first collector to complete the requirement for each player, the promotion effectively creates a first-to-finish contest. Topps also noted that the setup could increase demand for Super Nova inserts on the secondary market.

Deadline and Program Length

Topps has set a deadline of July 31, 2026 for the program. The company says the promotion will run for nearly 10 years, or until all of the one-of-ones have been redeemed.

That long window suggests the redemption will remain active well beyond the initial release period for Topps Chrome Cosmic, but the race element means each player's chase can be decided much sooner if a collector reaches the 10-card mark first.

Another Example of Fanatics and Topps Innovation

Topps framed the Black Hole Autograph chase as another example of the hobby innovations that have arrived since Fanatics acquired Topps. The company pointed to the Bowman Red Rookie Redemption as one earlier example.

That program, introduced a few years ago, uses Bowman rookie cards with a red RC logo. If the player wins Rookie of the Year, collectors can redeem the card for Fanatics Fancash, with the value increasing as the player adds accolades. Collectors can choose to redeem or hold depending on how they view the player's career path.

Topps also referenced Rookie Debut Patch Autographed cards as another major innovation. Those cards feature a patch worn by the player during his first professional game, beginning in baseball before expanding into other sports as Fanatics added more licenses.

With Topps Chrome Cosmic arriving alongside a redemption chase that depends on both scarcity and speed, the release adds a new layer of strategy for collectors targeting specific players. The combination of limited Super Nova inserts, a one-of-one prize, and a public leaderboard gives the product a different kind of chase than a standard pack-pulled autograph insert.
