Francisco Lindor Adds Roberto Clemente Award to His Career

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor has been named the winner of this year’s Roberto Clemente Award, Major League Baseball’s top honor for off-field impact. The recognition places Lindor among a select group of Mets players to receive the award, joining Gary Carter, Al Leiter, Carlos Delgado, and Curtis Granderson.

The award is presented to a player who has shown outstanding character and philanthropy. It carries special meaning for Lindor, who was born in Puerto Rico, the same island home as Roberto Clemente.

Lindor’s baseball resume already includes a strong run of on-field accomplishments. Drafted by Cleveland in 2011, he reached the majors in 2015, made four All-Star teams, and helped lead the club to the 2016 World Series before being traded to the Mets in 2021, where he later signed an extension.

His career has also produced a deep card market, with several high-end Bowman Chrome issues leading the way. Here are five of his most notable cards based on reported sales.

No. 5 - 2011 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospect Red Refractor Auto #2/5

One of Lindor’s earliest premium cards is his 2011 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospect Red Refractor Auto, serial-numbered to 5. The card is graded BGS GEM Mint 9.5 with a 10 autograph grade and shows Lindor mid-throw with the red border that marks the low print run.

The autograph is in black ink rather than the more commonly preferred blue ink, and the signature appears somewhat streaky. According to Card Ladder, the card last sold on February 8, 2023, for $12,000 through Goldin after drawing 32 bids.

No. 4 - 2015 Topps Chrome Rookie Auto Superfractor

Lindor’s 2015 Topps Chrome Rookie Auto Superfractor is another major card from his early career. Graded BGS GEM Mint 9.5 with a 10 autograph grade, it features a young Lindor following through after a swing while looking upward, likely tracking a fly ball. The card includes the familiar Superfractor vinyl swirl pattern and a blue ink signature.

The card sold through Goldin on September 26, 2024, for $14,030 after receiving 64 bids. Card Ladder currently lists a value of $18,330 for the card.

No. 3 - 2011 Bowman Chrome Prospect Auto Orange Refractor #4/25

Another standout from Lindor’s 2011 Bowman Chrome run is the Orange Refractor Auto numbered to 25. This card is also graded BGS GEM Mint 9.5 with a 10 autograph grade and shows Lindor throwing, with part of his lower body cut off by the white space in the design. The autograph is in blue ink.

The card sold on April 7, 2021, for $20,400 through Goldin, shortly after Lindor’s move to the Mets and a few days after Opening Day. Card Ladder currently values the card at $7,986.

No. 2 - 2011 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospect Red Refractor Auto #4/5

Lindor’s second-highest-selling card is another 2011 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospect Red Refractor Auto, also serial-numbered to 5 and graded BGS GEM Mint 9.5 with a 10 autograph grade. It is essentially the same card as the No. 5 entry, but from a different position in the print run.

This example features a cleaner blue ink signature and sold on March 21, 2021, for $73,200 through Goldin. Card Ladder currently values the card at $12,750.

No. 1 - 2011 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospect Autograph Superfractor

The top sale among Lindor cards is his 2011 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospect Autograph Superfractor. The card is graded BGS GEM Mint 9.5 with a 10 autograph grade and stands as the highest-profile Lindor card in the market based on reported sales.

It has sold twice in the tracked market. On May 6, 2020, during the early COVID-era surge in card prices, it brought $102,000. It later sold again on April 21, 2023, for $26,400.

Why Lindor’s Card Market Stands Out

Lindor’s strongest cards are concentrated in his 2011 Bowman Chrome prospect issues, which is common for players whose earliest premium autograph cards become the foundation of long-term collector demand. His market also reflects the impact of career milestones, team changes, and the continuing appeal of low-numbered refractors and Superfractors.

With the Roberto Clemente Award now added to his list of honors, Lindor’s profile extends beyond production on the field. For collectors, that combination of star power, heritage, and a strong early-card portfolio keeps his top rookies and prospect autos among the most watched cards in the hobby.
