Palo Alto CardVault Store Hit by Burglary
Just one week after its grand opening, the newest CardVault by Tom Brady location in Palo Alto was burglarized, with thieves making off with more than $12,000 worth of cards, according to police.
Palo Alto police said one or more burglars smashed a window at the store at Town & Country Village around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Palo Alto Online reported that the intruder or intruders then broke several display cases and took approximately 60 cards.
The store had opened only seven days earlier on Aug. 15, when hundreds of collectors and football fans turned out for the ribbon cutting and grand opening festivities.
Brady Appeared at Grand Opening
Interest in the new shop surged after word spread that Tom Brady might attend. Some collectors began lining up hours before the doors opened, hoping to see the seven-time Super Bowl champion in person.
Brady, who grew up nearby in San Mateo, ultimately arrived for the event. He signed autographs, posed for photos and took part in the ribbon cutting as the Palo Alto store officially opened its doors.
Inside the New Palo Alto Location
The store is located at 855 El Camino Real and is CardVault's 17th retail location. It is also the company's second Bay Area shop.
CardVault sells sports and other trading cards, unopened boxes and packs, and authenticated memorabilia. The rapid expansion has continued since Brady acquired a 50% stake in the company in 2025, when CardVault operated just three stores.
Another Bay Area location opened across from Oracle Park in San Francisco as part of that growth.
CardVault Has Faced Similar Theft Before
The Palo Alto burglary is not the first time one of the chain's stores has been targeted. CardVault's SoHo location in New York was burglarized shortly after opening in 2025, with nearly $10,000 worth of baseball and Pokémon cards reported stolen.
Palo Alto police said the investigation into the latest break-in was ongoing Monday, and the suspect or suspects remained at large.
Police Investigation Continues
Authorities have not released additional details about the cards taken or whether any arrests have been made. The burglary adds an early setback for the new Palo Alto store, which had drawn significant attention during its opening week because of Brady's involvement and the strong turnout from collectors.
The incident also highlights the security challenges that can come with high-profile card shops, especially when valuable inventory is on display in a retail setting that attracts both collectors and casual visitors.
