CardVault Enters the Trading Card Vending Machine Business

CardVault by Tom Brady is expanding beyond traditional retail with a new line of branded automated kiosks stocked with sports cards, Pokémon, and other trading cards. The company says the machines are designed to bring product to collectors in airports, malls, and other high-traffic locations.

According to the company, the automated retail machines are intended to deliver “fair priced product straight to collectors, no matter where you are.” CardVault says the project was developed in partnership with Daymond John of Shark Tank and Amerikiosks.

Two machines are already in operation. One is located at Gate E18 in the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, and another is at Play Boston, a sports bar and entertainment venue on Causeway Street in Boston’s West End near TD Garden and North Station.

CardVault also displayed the machine model at Fanatics Fest in New York City.

What the Machines Are Designed to Offer

The company’s push into automated retail comes as trading card vending machines have become more visible in recent years. Similar machines have appeared in malls, airports, sports venues, and even cruise ships, with some operators offering packs and boxes of sports cards and Pokémon or other trading card game products through touchscreen interfaces and secure delivery systems.

Machines that dispense random graded cards have also surfaced in different locations over the last couple of years, adding another layer to the vending machine trend in the hobby.

CardVault has not detailed a full nationwide rollout schedule for its own kiosks, but the early placements suggest the company is targeting busy public spaces where collectors can buy product outside the traditional card shop setting.

CardVault Opens Its 17th Retail Location in Palo Alto

Alongside the vending machine rollout, CardVault is continuing to grow its brick-and-mortar footprint. The company will open its 17th retail location this Saturday at Town & Country Village in Palo Alto, California, near Stanford University.

The Palo Alto store is CardVault’s second Bay Area location. The company already operates another shop across from Oracle Park in San Francisco.

The new store will be open seven days a week from 10 AM to 7 PM.

Long-Term Store Growth Plans

CardVault leadership has set aggressive expansion goals for the coming years. The company is aiming for 40 stores by 2028 and an eventual total of 100 locations nationwide.

With a new retail store opening and branded vending machines now in the mix, CardVault is building a broader presence in both traditional storefronts and automated retail spaces. The strategy gives the company another way to place trading card products in front of collectors in places where foot traffic is already strong.

The addition of airport and entertainment venue kiosks also puts CardVault in step with a growing segment of the hobby that has embraced self-serve buying options for sealed product and other trading card releases.
