The Expansion

Another announced insert is The Expansion, which will feature cards from the 28 teams that were in the NFL during the 1976 season, after the Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers joined the league.

Topps has already shown a preview of this insert with Justin Herbert appearing in the line. The theme ties directly into the league landscape of the mid-1970s, giving the set another strong historical angle.

New Age Performers and Through the Years

Also announced for the release are New Age Performers and Through the Years. Topps has not yet shared full details on those inserts, but both are expected to be part of the broader 2026 Heritage Football lineup.

Autographs Return in Multiple Styles

Autographs are expected to be one of the biggest attractions in 2026 Topps Heritage Football, with several formats already confirmed or teased by Topps.

The most sought-after autograph in Heritage products is typically the Real Ones Autographs line, and the Red Ink version is usually the top chase within that group. Those cards are returning in 2026.

One of the featured memorabilia formats is Locker Room Collection Autograph Relics. These cards combine an autograph and a relic on one design, and Topps has previewed the format with Caleb Williams.

The preview suggests a polished presentation for the autograph relic subset, which should make it one of the more visually distinctive parts of the set.

Where 2026 Topps Heritage Football Fits in the Season

Topps Heritage Football is expected to be the third football release of the 2026 season, following the company's other early football products.

2026 Topps Flagship Football was released on Aug. 21 and served as the first release for rookies such as Fernando Mendoza and Drew Allar.

Next up is 2026 Bowman Football, which is scheduled for Sept. 30. That release will feature NFL and collegiate stars together for the first time, and it will also include cards for Texas quarterback Arch Manning. Before Topps obtained the NFL license, Arch Manning had only appeared in Panini products.

Topps has also begun rolling out Topps Now football releases since gaining licensing. Week 1 cards have included Arizona Cardinals rookie running back Jeremiyah Love and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
