2025-26 Panini Origins Basketball returns with a bigger hit load

Panini is continuing its run of Origins Basketball in 2025-26, and the product once again leans into the brand's focus on beginnings. This year's release arrives as Panini works through its first year as an unlicensed basketball card manufacturer, but the format still centers on a familiar mix of rookie content, veteran names, legends, and autograph-heavy box construction.

The biggest box-level change is the added volume. Hobby boxes now include three more cards than last year's version, and each box is configured to deliver two autographs and one memorabilia card. That is a notable shift from 2024-25 Panini Origins Basketball, which offered a combined two autographs or memorabilia cards per hobby box.

Origins remains one of Panini's more visually distinct basketball releases, and the 2025-26 edition continues that approach with a 100-card base set, a wide parallel lineup, multiple autograph families, memorabilia cards, and a mix of inserts that includes both returning concepts and new additions.

Rookie Jersey Autographs return in a horizontal format this year, and Panini says they feature a larger jersey swatch than last season's rookie versions. Legendary Patch Autographs pair retired stars with autographs and smaller jersey swatches. Solo-signed cards include OrigiNation Autographs, which feature players wrapped in the flag of their birth country, and Rookie Acetate Autographs, which use a layered design with a large signing area.

Autograph parallel structure

Parallel levels vary by insert and autograph set. Across the checklist, Panini uses combinations of Tessellated, Red, Blue, Pink, Turquoise, Gold, Green, Black, Opal, White, Neon Stripes, Amethyst, and Platinum depending on the specific card family. Serial numbering differs by set, and some subsets have special notes or missing parallel levels on certain cards.

Memorabilia cards include rookie hats and Origins swatches

Origins Memorabilia cards return in multiple forms, with the most notable rookie-specific chase being Rookie Hats. These cards use draft night photos and swatches taken from baseball caps worn by select draftees on NBA Draft night. Panini also notes that some cards will include pieces of the golden Panini logo that appeared on the caps.

The insert lineup mixes returning SSPs with new rookie-focused artwork. Gala, the rare /8 insert that previously appeared in 2023-24 Panini Recon and 2024-25 Panini Silhouette after its longer run in Panini Chronicles, makes its Origins debut here.

White Tiger Eyes returns as an SSP that has appeared in Origins since 2022. On The Horizon is a new all-rookie insert that uses an illustrated throne concept for its design.
