Although the name has been used in different products in recent years, 2024 Panini Boys of Summer Baseball marks its debut as a standalone release. Like the cards that preceded it, the set has nothing to do with Roger Kahn’s classic 1972 book about the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Hobby boxes include four total hits, three of which are autographs.
Part prospects, part retired stars, by legal definitions there are some boys on the checklist. Of course, “Boys of Summer” is more a romanticized way of labelling baseball players and the game itself. But still, literal interpretations can apply here as well.
Designs, which use fading ballparks running through the background, have a sort of nostalgic appeal to them. But much of the content is very much in the modern. To that end, there are some similarities to Panini’s Immaculate line.
This includes a couple of memorabilia inserts that opt for oversized swatches, Massive Materials and Jumbo Prospect Materials.
There are also Jumbo Prospect Materials Signatures, which add autographs.
Even Prospect Material Signatures cards use generous pieces of gear.
America’s Best Signatures, American Glory Signatures and Characters of the Game Signatures are some of the product’s other autographs.
