2022-23 Upper Deck Marvel Annual travels back in time to offer trading card collectors a look back on a year’s worth of comic books. The characters, the major events, the crossovers — they’re all here. With it comes a variety of card types and styles.
The foundation of the release is the base set, which consists of 100 cards. It takes a character-centric approach, looking at the heroes and villains from across the modern Marvel universe.
Parallels come in several levels including Canvas Variants, Gold Linearity Patterned Foilboard, Holograms and Printing Plates. Retail blasters are the only place to find Blue versions.
Artists and writers working on the comics have signatures in Creators Corner Autographs and Creators Corner Dual Autographs.
Among Marvel Annual’s toughest inserts is Crystal Clear, which are printed on plexi material.
Suspended Animation, which has its roots in 1990s Marvel sets, get a fresh installment. These use acetate, giving them a plastic feel and clear background.
Another insert set with a nostalgic tinge is Backscatters. These are somewhat reminiscent of the shiny stickers found in vending machines alongside giant gobstoppers, sticky hands and stale candy.
Lenticular Multiple Dimensions offer up a 3D appearance.
