Ty Cobb Cards Lead REA October Auction
Ty Cobb remained a major draw for collectors in REA's October Auction, where several of his cards finished among the event's top sales. The headline result came from a 1909-11 T206 White Border Red Background Ty Cobb card with a Ty Cobb back, which sold for $153,750. The card was graded PSA Poor 1.
Cobb, who held baseball's all-time hits record until Pete Rose passed him, has long been one of the most collected early-era players in the hobby. That appeal was on display again as multiple Cobb cards drew strong bidding in a large auction that featured more than 6,000 lots.
Strong Prices For Multiple Cobb Cards
Another 1909-1911 T206 White Border Ty Cobb Portrait Green Background card sold for $34,440. That example was graded PSA VG-EX+ 4.5.
A 1910-11 M116 Sporting Life Ty Cobb Blue Background card also performed well, bringing $33,210. The card was graded SGC EX+ 5.5 and set a record for the grade.
Those results helped make Cobb one of the central stories of the auction, with vintage Hall of Fame cards continuing to attract attention from collectors focused on early tobacco and prewar issues.
Other Top Baseball Cards In The Auction
Several other notable vintage cards posted strong results in the sale. A 1954 Topps #1 Ted Williams card graded PSA 8.5 sold for $41,820.
A 1960 Topps #148 Carl Yastrzemski rookie card graded PSA 9 brought $35,670.
Other record sales included a 1961 Topps #415 Hank Aaron card graded PSA 9, which was the highest graded example of the card, and sold for $28,290. A 1954 Wilson Franks Ted Williams card graded SGC VG 3 sold for $34,440, while a 1940 R335 Play Ball #27 Ted Williams card graded PSA 8 realized $15,375.

REA Says Collectors Responded Across The Board
REA President Brian Dwyer said the auction produced strong prices throughout the catalog and added that the event generated numerous all-time highs across a wide range of items.
With more than 6,000 lots, the auction ranked among REA's largest and delivered notable results for both key vintage cards and record-setting graded examples. The combination of rare prewar Cobb issues and high-grade postwar stars made the sale a broad snapshot of what continues to resonate in the sports card market.
