Vintage Icons and Modern Soccer Stars Drive a Huge Week
Sports card sales rebounded in a major way during the week of July 20-26, with several cards clearing the $500,000 mark and multiple records falling along the way. Vintage baseball and soccer cards led the market, while a modern soccer star also joined the list of headline sales.
Even with the World Cup in the rearview mirror, demand for soccer cards remained strong. In fact, three of the five biggest sales from the week came from the soccer market, a rare showing that underscored just how broad collector interest has become.
No. 5 - 2008 Fleer Buyback '93 Michael Jordan Ultra Scoring Kings Autograph
The week’s only basketball card landed at No. 5, but it still posted a massive result. A one-of-one PSA Authentic 2008 Fleer Buyback '93 Ultra Scoring Kings Michael Jordan Autograph sold for $504,000 on July 24, 2026.
The card stands out for its silver autograph, which pops against the dark background and pays tribute to one of the most recognizable 1990s insert designs in the hobby. A separate high-end sale for the 1993 Ultra Scoring Kings Jordan card also surfaced that day, with a PSA 10 example selling for $63,000.
No. 4 - 1958 Americana Balas Campeonato Pele Rookie Card #32
Pele’s 1958 Americana Balas Campeonato rookie card continued the week’s vintage soccer surge. This PSA 2 copy sold for $610,000 on July 25, 2026, making it one of the most notable public sales for the card.
According to Card Ladder, the card has a current population of just one, and there are no other public sale records in the database. That level of scarcity helps explain why the card so rarely reaches the market and why each appearance draws significant attention from collectors.
No. 3 - 2023-24 Panini Black Kaboom! Lamine Yamal Rookie Card
Modern soccer also made its mark near the top of the list. An ungraded one-of-one 2023-24 Panini Black Kaboom featuring Lamine Yamal sold for $707,600 on July 25, 2026, setting a new record for the highest-selling Yamal card.
The previous record belonged to a PSA 10 one-of-one 2024 Topps Chrome Autographed Rookie Superfractor, which sold for $396,500 on June 15, 2025. The new sale more than reset the market benchmark for one of soccer’s most closely watched young stars.
No. 2 - 1958 Alifabolaget Pele Rookie #635
Pele appeared twice in the top five, and his 1958 Alifabolaget Pele rookie card (#635) landed at No. 2 after a PSA 9 example sold for $1,170,000 on July 24, 2026.
Although the card crossed the seven-figure threshold, it did not set a new record for the card itself. That distinction still belongs to a PSA 9 copy that sold in 2022 for $1,330,000. Even so, the result reinforces the enduring strength of Pele’s rookie market and the continued demand for elite vintage soccer cards.
No. 1 - 1948 Leaf Jackie Robinson Rookie Autograph #79
The biggest sale of the week belonged to Jackie Robinson. An autographed PSA PR 1 (Auto 8) 1948 Leaf rookie card (#79) sold for $1.86 million on July 24, 2026, setting multiple records in the process.
The sale established a new high for any Jackie Robinson card, surpassing the previous record held by a PSA 9 1952 Topps #312 that sold for $960,000 in May 2021. It also became the highest-selling autographed vintage sports card of all time, topping the prior mark set by a Babe Ruth autographed 1933 Goudey #181, which sold for $1.464 million on February 21, 2026.
For vintage baseball collectors, the result was a landmark moment. Robinson remains one of the most important figures in sports history, and this sale reflected the combination of historical significance, rarity, and autograph appeal that can push a card into record territory.
Why This Week Stood Out in the Hobby
This was the kind of week that reminds collectors how quickly the high-end market can shift. After a relatively quiet stretch, sales surged back with multiple cards above $500,000 and record-setting results across different eras and sports.
