Ben Rice’s playoff breakout is driving collector demand

Ben Rice was already one of the more closely watched names in the hobby after a powerful regular season, and his October production has only added fuel to the market. The young Yankees slugger entered the postseason after hitting 41 home runs during the regular season, then delivered a string of big games that quickly caught the attention of collectors.

Rice made his biggest statement in the Yankees’ wild-card matchup against the Red Sox on Sept. 29. In a loud win over Boston, he collected four hits, including two home runs, one of them a grand slam, while driving in six runs. He followed that performance with another hit and a walk the next night as the Yankees closed out the best-of-three series.

He kept rolling in the ALDS as well, hitting two more home runs in Game 2 against the Tampa Bay Rays. Through four playoff games, Rice is batting .389 with four home runs and eight RBI for New York.

Recent sales show the market reacting quickly

Rice’s postseason surge has already shown up in the card market. On the night of his two-homer game against Boston, an eBay auction for a 2025 Topps Dynasty signed Rice patch card closed at $6,700 after drawing 42 bids.

That sale came shortly after another version of the same Topps Dynasty signed card had already posted a stronger result. Two months earlier, a variation featuring a different portrait of Rice sold for $10,400 on 51 bids. That card also came from an edition of 10, but the image showed a more serious portrait rather than the smiling photo used on the other version.

Why Rice has become such a strong hobby name

Rice’s rise has been tied to both production and opportunity. With former MVP Aaron Judge injured, Rice stepped into a larger role for the Yankees and made the most of it during the regular season. He finished the year batting .264 with 41 home runs and 97 RBI, giving collectors a clear statistical foundation to follow.

He has now totaled 67 home runs across two full seasons with the Yankees, a number that helps explain why his cards have drawn so much attention in a short period of time. Big power numbers tend to move quickly in the hobby, especially when they are paired with postseason moments against a rival like Boston.

Postseason performance is adding another layer to his card story

For collectors, Rice’s playoff run matters because it adds fresh highlights to a profile that already had plenty of power appeal. The four-hit game against the Red Sox, the grand slam, and the two-homer showing against Tampa Bay all give hobby buyers new reference points when evaluating his cards.

That kind of performance can affect both modern singles and higher-end autograph and patch cards, especially when a player is still early in his career. In Rice’s case, the combination of regular-season power and October production has created a strong short-term market response, with the 2025 Topps Dynasty signed patch card serving as one of the clearest examples so far.

As the Yankees continue their postseason run, Rice’s card market will likely remain tied to each new big swing. For now, his recent games have already turned him into one of the more talked-about names among Yankees collectors and baseball card buyers alike.
