Topps is making waves in the trading card world with the release of the 2023-24 Topps Mercury Victor Wembanyama collection, a high-end product that revolves solely around the NBA’s Rookie of the Year sensation, Victor Wembanyama. This groundbreaking collection features eight cards per box, with each box priced at $8,000, and includes two autographs and rare game-worn relics from Wembanyama’s rookie season.

This product marks the debut of the Topps Mercury line, which is set to showcase individual athletes in their first professional seasons. Wembanyama, who has already become a global sensation, is the inaugural athlete featured in this series, and his cards are packed with unique designs and valuable memorabilia.

One of the most exciting elements of this set is the dual autograph card featuring Wembanyama and NBA legend LeBron James, both of whom have exclusive autograph deals with Fanatics. Red parallels, numbered to just five, and a 1/1 SuperFractor are among the key chase cards that collectors will be seeking.

Each card in the collection is encased in a magnetic holder and wrapped in foil, giving the product a premium look and feel. The set includes 10 autograph card designs, some with personalized inscriptions from Wembanyama himself, making these collectibles even more special.

Topps has pulled out all the stops with the relic cards, which feature game-worn jersey pieces from iconic moments in Wembanyama’s rookie season. These include memorabilia from his NBA debut in October and the game in which he scored his 1,000th point. Given the immense value of Wembanyama memorabilia—his first NBA jersey sold for $762,000 last November—these relics are sure to command serious attention.

In addition to Wembanyama’s solo autographs, the set features other dual autograph cards pairing him with some of the greatest names in basketball, including David Robinson, Tony Parker, Shaquille O’Neal, and Jason Kidd. Football fans aren’t left out either, with CJ Stroud joining Wembanyama in another dual autograph card. Each dual autograph is limited to just 10 copies, making these cards extremely rare.

The base card set includes 20 cards that highlight standout moments from Wembanyama’s rookie season, with short print versions printed in French and limited to just 45 copies each. A "Specimen" super short print variation, limited to 15 copies, highlights Wembanyama’s popular “Alien” nickname. Parallels for all 20 base cards will also be available with serial numbers capped at 99.

Collectors can also look forward to 10 insert card designs, including themed sets like “Cote to Coast”, inspired by the French Riviera, 1971 Topps Chrome, and Wingspan. Some of these inserts will also feature autographs, adding even more value to the collection.

This isn’t the first time Topps has released a single-athlete set, with previous collections like Topps x J-Rod (Julio Rodriguez) in 2023. However, the Wembanyama Mercury release is poised to be Topps’ “most widely distributed single-athlete set” to date, offering broader accessibility to collectors.

The 2023-24 Topps Mercury Victor Wembanyama collection will be available for purchase through Topps.com and select hobby shops, with an early release via Fanatics Live one day before its official launch on October 9. Topps plans to continue using the Mercury line for future single-athlete products, highlighting the top talents in sports as they begin their pro careers.

Collectors and basketball fans alike will have the chance to secure a piece of Wembanyama’s incredible rookie season through this premium collection.
