Hulk Hogan has once again claimed the spotlight, not in the wrestling ring but in the collectible market. Over the weekend, a 1982-83 Wrestling All-Stars Hulk Hogan card sold for an eye-popping $132,000, setting a new record for wrestling cards. This milestone cements Hogan’s place as the face of one of the most celebrated card sets in wrestling history.

This sale eclipses the previous record held by a 2022 Prizm Black 1/1 card of The Rock, which sold for $126,000 earlier this year. Hogan’s victory in the collectibles world mirrors his dominance in the squared circle, reminding fans and collectors of his enduring legacy.

The Legacy of the 1982-83 Wrestling All-Stars Set

Considered the holy grail of wrestling cards, the 1982-83 Wrestling All-Stars set is renowned for featuring the "rookie" cards of legends like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and André the Giant. It has remained a cornerstone of wrestling memorabilia for decades, with Hogan’s card standing out as the crown jewel.

Before this record-breaking auction, Hogan’s card already commanded high values, with previous sales hovering around $50,000. Other cards from the set have also fetched impressive prices, including a BGS 9.5 André the Giant card, which sold for $47,970.

Scarcity Drives Value

What makes Hogan’s card so valuable? For starters, only 18 PSA 9-graded copies exist, and no PSA 10s have ever been documented. The card sold this weekend also featured an MBA Gold sticker, denoting it as one of the finest-graded examples. These factors, combined with Hogan’s iconic status, propelled the card to its record-breaking price.

Heritage Auctions Sees Big Wins

The sale was part of a blockbuster weekend for Heritage Auctions, which reported over $22.7 million in total sales. Among the highlights was a 1979 O-Pee-Chee case containing Wayne Gretzky rookie cards. The case, previously sold for $3.7 million before a buyer defaulted, was resold for $2.5 million—still an impressive figure despite the lower price.

Modern Sets May Challenge the Throne

While the 1982-83 Wrestling All-Stars set is the undisputed king of wrestling cards, modern releases are gaining traction. The 2002 Fleer Royal Rumble set, featuring rookie cards of superstars like John Cena, Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, and Batista, could rival the All-Stars set in the future. With its star-studded lineup, the Fleer set has the potential to become the next big thing for wrestling card collectors.

Hogan’s Card Takes Its Place in History

For now, Hulk Hogan’s $132,000 card reigns supreme, showcasing the power of nostalgia and the continued demand for vintage collectibles. This sale is not just a win for Hogan but also a testament to the growing recognition of wrestling cards as valuable assets in the broader sports card market.

Hulkamania isn’t just alive—it’s thriving in the world of collectibles.
