The owner of the "Finest" ( According to Al "Mr. Mint" Rosen ) example of a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle, 75 year old Super New York Yankees collector Anthony Giordano, a New Jersey native who has invested in waste management has decided to put it up on the auction block. Freshly graded in one of SGC's tuxedo slab's with an astounding 9.5 grade from the card graders. The label also reads "1985 Rosen-Find, "Finest Known Example".
This 1952 Mickey Mantle Topps Rookie comes from a collection found in 1985 by Al Rosen himself, along with 74 other mint copies of the card. Anthony Giordano purchased the card from Al Rosen, in 1991 at a card show after some back and forth haggling and settling at a price of $50,000!
Auction is currently set to run until August 27th, 2022. Current bidding with the buyer's premium is at $6.3 Million, estimation from top sports memorabilia and card expert OTIA Sports, puts the card between the $10-$12,000,000 range.
The current record for the sale of a trading card is $6.6 million, a 1909 T-206 Honus Wagner which was sold last August.
The card will be on display in Atlantic City for five days this week at the National Sports Collectors Convention. It will also be displayed at the Heritage Auctions office in New York in early August.
