Robert Edward Auctions (REA) recently concluded its February auction, achieving notable success with sales exceeding $1.2 million. The auction was highlighted by the sale of a PSA 5 graded M116 Sporting Life Honus Wagner card for $75,000, setting a new record for its version and demonstrating the high demand for rare vintage sports cards.
The auction also featured a Ty Cobb Blue Background card from the same M116 Sporting Life series, which, graded PSA GOOD 2, broke the record for its condition with a $15,000 sale. The auction attracted a significant number of registry builders and collectors, particularly with the offering of ten Mint 9 graded cards from the 196 Topps set. Among these, a #2 Roman Mejias PSA MINT 9 card achieved an auction high of $19,200, the highest price for a non-Hall of Famer from this set in its grade.
