A set of Lionel Messi's jerseys worn during the 2022 FIFA World Cup is set to hit the auction block at Sotheby's, potentially commanding a price in the tens of millions. These jerseys, which witnessed the football icon lead Argentina to World Cup glory, include those from the Final, Semi-final, Quarter-final, Round of 16, and two Group Stage matches, are scheduled for auction from November 30 to December 14.

The auction house anticipates the collection will attract bids over $10 million, reflecting Messi's global stature and the items' historical significance. The auction follows in the wake of record-breaking sales for sports memorabilia, including Michael Jordan's NBA Finals jersey and Diego Maradona's 'Hand of God' shirt, with Messi's set poised to join these ranks.

The sale is orchestrated by AC Momento, a tech company specializing in sports memorabilia, which partners with renowned athletes to curate and auction their game-worn items. AC Momento's CEO, John Brennan, a veteran collector himself, expressed that this auction represents a landmark event, offering fans a tangible piece of Messi's monumental achievements.

Further enriching the auction, a part of the proceeds will benefit the UNICAS Project under the auspices of the SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital and supported by the Leo Messi Foundation, aimed at aiding children with rare diseases.

As potential bidders prepare for this historic auction, the jerseys will be showcased at Sotheby’s New York offices, allowing admirers to view the garments that Messi wore during what was a pinnacle event in his storied career.
