Robert Edward Auctions hosts its May Encore auction, presenting a vast array of sports collectibles, including historically significant baseball card sets and a unique Honus Wagner signed check. The auction, featuring over 3,600 lots, captures the evolution of sports memorabilia from the 19th century to the present.

Robert Edward Auctions is currently conducting its May Encore auction, an event that showcases an extensive selection of sports memorabilia, from historic baseball card sets to single cards across various eras. Notably, the auction includes a check signed by baseball legend Honus Wagner, dated just a year after he retired from professional baseball.

The auction, which kicked off this Thursday, encompasses the entire spectrum of sports collectibles history. It features cards from as early as the 19th century, with items like the 1909-1911 T206 White Border Ty Cobb with a rare Uzit back and a Ty Cobb rookie from the 1907 Wolverine News Postcard series, underscoring the depth of the collection.

Significant entries include complete sets from the 1950s, such as the 1957, 1958, and 1959 Topps sets, each boasting high rankings on the PSA Set Registry. Additionally, the auction will break complete sets card by card from the 1951 Bowman set, featuring iconic rookie cards of Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle, each in PSA 5, and other legends like Whitey Ford in PSA 8.

The auction also includes the Goudey Greats, with six of the most iconic cards from the 1933 Goudey series, including quartets of Babe Ruth cards and the coveted Lou Gehrig cards. Memorabilia enthusiasts will find unique items like a 1957 NFL Championship Game ticket stub and a 1920 Real Photo Postcard of the Harvard team that competed in the Rose Bowl.

REA President Brian Dwyer remarked on the success of this auction, following a record-setting $15.4 million spring sale, attributing the auction's strength to the quality of collections available. Dwyer emphasized the enthusiasm and dedication of the collectors who have contributed to this high-end selection.

The auction, which offers every item with a starting bid of just $10, continues through May 19 on the REA website, providing an exciting opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to acquire pieces of sports history. This event not only serves as a platform for high-grade collectibles but also as a celebration of the rich narrative of sports memorabilia.
