A costly theft marred the final day of the National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland, as a sports card dealer from New Jersey reported the theft of approximately $275,000 in cash from his vehicle on Sunday, July 28.
The incident occurred at the I-X Center, where the 48-year-old dealer was loading his SUV after the event. The stolen cash, along with two iPads, had been stored in a black briefcase inside the vehicle. The dealer believed he had locked his SUV, but the briefcase was taken while he was away.
Cleveland Police First District detectives reported that the briefcase, which contained an air tag, was later found on I-X Center property. Unfortunately, the substantial amount of cash that had been inside was missing.
Police are currently seeking two suspects who were seen leaving the area in a blue Honda Odyssey van.
